Last Updated on 1/17/2022
CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky endorsed ACIP’s vote to expand eligibility and strengthen the recommendations for booster doses. CDC now recommends that all adolescents aged 12-17 years should receive a booster shot 5 months after their primary series. Dr. Walensky encourages all parents to keep their children up to date with CDC’s COVID-19 vaccine recommendations. She stated that, "This booster dose will provide optimized protection against COVID-19 and the Omicron variant".

We are thrilled about this news and are happy to open our doors to all eligible adolescents. We continue to serve the community and are dedicated to providing the best experience possible.

For those concerned about vaccinating their children, data shows that COVID-19 boosters help broaden and strengthen protection against Omicron and other SARS-CoV-2 variants. ACIP reviewed the available safety data following the administration of over 25 million vaccine doses in adolescents and found that COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective.

Please note that THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "Booster" and "Additional Dose". The terms booster shot and additional dose have become synonymous to the general public, but they imply different meanings. What you need to know is that this specific terminology only applies to the Moderna vaccine. The 3rd dose of Moderna is the EXACT SAME 0.5mL full dosage amount as the 1st and 2nd vaccine -- it's just an additional 3rd shot given to people with severely weakened immune systems. The booster shot of Moderna is half the normal dosage of the 1st and 2nd shot, meaning a booster of Moderna is only 0.25mL. Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson boosters are the same full dosage amount as the primary series.

Who is Eligible for a Fourth Booster Dose?
The CDC considers the following groups of people moderately to severely immunocompromised and eligible for a fourth dose:
*Been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancer of the blood
*Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
*Received a stem cell transplant within the last two years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
*Moderate or sever primary immunodeficiency(such as DiGeroge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
*Advance or untreated HIV infection
*Active Treatment wit high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your immune response

The Ideal COVID-19 Vaccine Plan for these individuals is as follows:
* Get a primary vaccine series: 2 doses of Pfizer or Moderna, followed by a 3rd dose 28 days later
* Get a 4th booster dose 5 months after the 3rd dose

For those who originally received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine:
* Get a booster of Pfizer or Moderna 2 months after 1st dose
* No additional boosters ( 3rd doses) are recommended at this time

The new guidelines include the approval of heterologous booster shots -- the "mixing & matching" of any of the 3 available vaccines. The decision to get a booster of a different vaccine manufacturer is up to the discretion of the recipient based on their personal preference.

If you received Pfizer-BioNTech; 12yrs and Older can get a booster At least 5 months after completing your primary COVID-19 vaccination series

If you received Moderna; Adults 18yrs and Older can get a booster At least 6 months after completing your primary COVID-19 vaccination series.

If you received Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen*; Adults 18yrs and Older can get a booster At least 2 months after receiving your J&J/Janssen COVID-19 vaccination
